Gary Schroeder
FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR
Gary began working in the whisky industry in January 2019 as the first employee of what would go on to become one of the largest whisky cask brokerages globally. During this period he was among the first in the UK market to help introduce Irish whiskey casks to private clients, playing a leading role in the early development and growth of that category.
Over time, Gary developed a broad understanding of the lifecycle of a whisky cask, from sourcing through to long-term ownership considerations. This experience shaped a practical approach centred on clear communication, sensible decision-making, and ensuring expectations are properly set from the outset.
Gary has worked across both private and institutional environments, including organisations such as the Law Society and the Institute of Directors. These settings reinforced the importance of structure, accountability, and sound judgement when dealing with long-term assets and client relationships.
Away from work, Gary enjoys endurance sport, including cycling, Ironman triathlon, and marathon running, and now does much of his running with his two young children riding alongside him. He also values the opportunity to spend time with clients on the golf course across the UK, Ireland, and further afield.
Frances Schroeder
CO-FOUNDER
Frances studied History at the University of Edinburgh, developing a strong foundation in research, critical analysis, and historical context. An enduring interest in history has shaped both her academic path and professional outlook, and it was this shared interest that initially drew her and Gary together.
After moving from Newcastle to London in 2012, Frances built her career across cultural and public sector institutions. She worked at the Royal Academy before later moving into the NHS, gaining experience in highly structured, regulated environments where accuracy, governance, and accountability are essential.
At Caskwise Ltd, Frances plays a key client-facing and operational role. She oversees client onboarding, manages KYC and AML processes, and coordinates the legal transfer of cask ownership to clients, ensuring clarity, compliance, and a smooth experience from the outset.
Frances co-founded Caskwise alongside Gary to implement transparent pricing, clear ownership structures, and a professional, well-governed approach to client relationships.
